Breastfeeding
I have two daughters. I
wanted to breastfeed both of them, but unfortunately my first daughter
wasn’t latching onto my breast. Once I had
my second daughter, I was very discourage about breastfeeding. I thought about
not doing it, because I was saddened that my oldest daughter did not do it. However, after talking to the lactation nurse,
she informed me that I should give it another try. I am glad I took her advice. Breastfeeding my second daughter assist us
with bonding. My first daughter and I
are very close, but I wished I was able to bond with her the same way I
bonded with her sister. Breastfeeding is
the best way to go! It’s free, and healthier than formula.
In London, women from black ethnic backgrounds and mothers born outside of the UK are significantly more likely to breastfeed despite many living in deprived circumstances. 87% of mothers in London initiated breastfeeding in the first few days after birth compared to 74% for England. 68% of mothers in London partially or exclusively breastfed 6 to 8 weeks after birth compared to 47% for England. ("Breastfeeding initiation high," )
It was very interesting how the reporter compared London to England. Moreover it was very interesting how over half of the women in London initiated breastfeeding in the first few days.

Shante,
ReplyDeleteIts amazing how breastfeeding creates a bonding relationship that is created at birth and it extends throughout life. I breastfed my oldest daughter and my fourth son the longest and the relationship is closer with the two then the other three children. With each weeks blog and my fellow classmates input, I get a better understanding of child development that I didn't know then. The stats you have on breastfeeding in London and England is amazing and informative. Thank you for sharing.

ReplyDeleteI never wanted to breastfeed my child, just thought he might latch on the breast and pull it off (LOL). They stated that breastfeeding babies are less likely to have ear infections, allergies, vomiting, diarrhea, pneumonia, juvenile diabetes and meningitis.

ReplyDeleteMy cousin breastfed her daughter Aden . Her daughter is very attached.she is so precious but she is a mama"s girl. She has had very few aliments as an infant. Her mother lost a lot of weight. I always though the stories around breasfeeding were not true but I am glad to research the topic more. Breastfed babies are healthier .
I know of mothers who breast feed their children up to six months of age and even sometimes up to a year old. I think breastfeeding strengthens the bond between mother and child, and also provides essential antibodies young infants need. Good post!
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteMy experience was a great one once the process started. In the very beginning my expression was not plentiful and I thought I would not be able to breastfeed.
Shante’ I have always heard that breastfeeding was the best way to go. It has been said to be a great way for the mother and child to bond. I have had the opportunity to gain more insight on the subject from reading your post. I have two children and never took the time to breastfeed either one of them. Sometimes, I wish I had due to fact that it is healthier than formula and free.
